The Location

With a bustling urban population, Lagos is arguably the most economically important state of the country and the 6th largest city in the world by population. Lagos is the 4th wealthiest state in Africa. It is popularly known as Eko which means “Camp” as derived from the Benin Culture. Lagos is a busy port city built on a series of islands and surrounding land on the West Coast of Africa. It is a melting pot of cultural traditions.

Lagos is popular for its beach resorts, arts, culture, entertainment, vibrant nightlife and is a key port city in the sub region. The metropolitan area originated on islands, including Lagos Island, that were protected from the Atlantic Ocean by sand spits. The city has expanded onto the mainland west of the lagoon with Ikeja as the capital, and Agege over 25 miles northwest of Lagos Island. Lagos has a population estimated at 21 million in 2016, which makes it the largest city in Africa (World Population Review, 2020).
